Dog Sunset 3

Solensia and Librela

Introducing Librela and Solensia are two new treatments for chronic pain, particularly in the context of osteoarthritis in dogs and cats  Both Librela and Solensia represent significant advancements in the field of veterinary medicine, offering targeted relief for pets suffering from chronic pain due to osteoarthritis

Librela:

  • Active Substance: Librela contains the active substance Bedinvetmab, a monoclonal antibody designed for dogs.
  • Mechanism of Action: Bedinvetmab targets a protein called Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), which plays a crucial role in the transmission of pain signals in the body, particularly in conditions like osteoarthritis.
  • How It Works: Once administered via subcutaneous injection (under the skin), Bbedinvetmab binds to NGF molecules in the body. By doing so, it prevents NGF from attaching to its receptors on nerve cells. This interruption in the binding process interferes with the transmission of pain signals, ultimately relieving pain associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.
  • Dosage: The recommended dosage of Librela varies depending on the weight of the dog. It is administered as a solution for injection and should only be given under veterinary supervision.

Solensia:

Solensia
  • Active Substance: Solensia contains the active substance frunevetmab, a felinised monoclonal antibody designed for cats.
  • Mechanism of Action: Frunevetmab also targets nerve growth factor (NGF), albeit in a felinised form tailored specifically for cats.
  • How It Works: Similar to Librela, frunevetmab binds to NGF molecules in the body, preventing them from attaching to their receptors on nerve cells. This interference disrupts the pain signalling pathway regulated by NGF, leading to relief from pain associated with osteoarthritis in cats.
  • Dosage: As with Librela, the recommended dosage of Solensia depends on the weight of the cat. It is administered via subcutaneous injection and should be prescribed by a veterinarian.
